US military expands LiFi deployment
PureLiFi in Scotland has entered into a second multi-million dollar contract to supply the US military with thousands of units of its LiFi defense system, Kitefin.
This uses free-space light modulation to carry more secure data than WiFi or 4G and 5G. PureLiFi demonstrated a mobile phone with built-in LiFI (see video below).
“The Kitefin system is now officially disrupting the wireless defense technology ecosystem. Kitefin provides the latest advancements in critical communications protection and has the potential to save missions and lives, ”said Alistair Banham, CEO of pureLiFi.
This follows a $ 4.2 million deal earlier in the year that was the largest deployment of LiFi technology to date despite a number of trials around the world, including with BMW.
“The US Army Europe is expanding its use of this advanced technology as LiFi has proven to be reliable for the most critical communications. LiFi not only enhances the U.S. military’s wireless connectivity toolkit, but has also demonstrated in action that LiFi solves real-world defense and national security challenges, ”said Andrew Foreman, Director of USAREUR-AF technology.
“LiFi technologies address three serious issues associated with the RF portion of the spectrum. First, due to the low probability of detection, jamming and intrusion, FSO and LiFi offer an extremely viable form of communication in the event of direct conflict with a nearby adversary, ”he said.
pureLiFi offers high-speed components ready to be integrated into consumer electronics devices such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets, with the aim of bringing LiFi into widespread use and delivering unprecedented bandwidth, ultra-fast speeds. fast and military-grade security to the consumer.
