In addition to the medical, dental and vision care that is offered, residents can also bring their dog or cat for free rabies vaccinations.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The US Army’s 176th Medical Brigade is now in town. It is the largest of its kind and is now participating in Operation Nueces County Health and Wellness.

The US Army is setting up one of its four sites at West Oso Junior High School where it will provide free medical and veterinary care to families throughout the region.

It is inside the school’s music room that the medical brigade installs its dental equipment.

“We are able to do root canals, fillings and other dental procedures using this equipment,” said the brigade’s Billy Dunn.

The county’s first day of operation begins Tuesday morning at West Oso Junior High School. U.S. Army doctors and nurses will also provide concurrent medical and dental care at Banquete Elementary School. Residents can also stop at Mission of Mercy for an eye exam.

“We will do several preventative screenings, including medical screenings, including diabetes screenings,” Col. Monica Martinez said. “We are going to do vaccinations.”

The medical brigade has a long and rich tradition which includes service during World War II. These women and men are now based in the Dallas area and have come here to try to make a difference.

“The medical profession in general is made up of people who want to volunteer and who want to help,” Lt. Col. Derrick Sorweide said. “Training is critically important in the military, but getting out there and doing something good for the community goes a long way to not only meeting what we need inside, but what that community needs. need.”

In addition to the medical, dental and vision care that is offered, residents can also bring their dog or cat for free rabies vaccinations.
