Clothing control and traceability are essential in the eight hospitals, twelve medical centers and various specialized institutions of SMG, including more than one million associates. SMG implemented a modern solution consisting of Zebra’s FX9600 and FX7500 fixed RFID readers, RFD2000 RFID sleds combined with TC20 mobile computers and the laundry RFID solution from Telectrónica, a Zebra PartnerConnect Premier business partner. With the real-time visibility that SMG gained into its inventory, this solution saved SMG $ 80,000 (USD) per year by reducing the number of lost clothing items, according to a press release from Zebra .
SMG Laundry also adds RFID tags to its staff uniforms and hospital bedding, categorizing them by color, size and receiving entity. This reduces human errors during the delivery process and helps SMG send the right clothes to the right customer. Additionally, the company has installed an RFID-equipped tunnel where uniforms are counted while going to the laundry in sealed bags, reducing the risk of disease transmission.
With less time required to locate and select clothing items, the RFID solution increased the productivity of SMG workers by 70 percent. It also helps SMG comply with aseptic regulations and provide better care for its patients and medical staff, according to Zebra.
“It is unthinkable to go back to paper-based operations after implementing Zebra-Telectronica’s RFID solution. This project gave us the visibility and efficiency we were looking for to improve our laundry operations, which represents more than seven million clothing transactions each year. We can now audit a hospital’s inventory, which includes more than 20,000 garments, in four hours with one person, without interfering with medical operations, ”said Sebastián Cimino, CEO of SMG Laundry in a statement.
“We are proud to have been selected to support the largest RFID implementation in the Argentinian healthcare sector. Our RFID solution has eliminated the time spent on manual tasks and improved the efficiency of inventory management, helping SMG know exactly how many garments it owns and where they are in real time, ”said Allan Gidekel, CEO of Telectrónica.
“Zebra’s solutions provide healthcare organizations with a performance advantage that helps reduce medical errors, improve regulatory compliance and provide better quality patient care. By intelligently connecting enterprise assets, data and people in collaborative workflows with RFID technology, SMG has increased workforce productivity, reduced operating costs and generated operational efficiencies. significant, ”said Alejandro Prosperi, SOLA Region Sales Director, Zebra.
