Rheinmetall will supply its latest artillery propellant technology to the US military. American Rheinmetall Munitions Inc., located in Stafford, Virginia, is under contract to prototype an Extended Range Artillery Charge (ERC) to fire ammunition from a 155 mm long L58 artillery gun. This ERC increases the ranges achieved with US Army 155mm ammunition by approximately 10% over any other artillery booster currently in use today. It builds on a successful cooperative R&D effort with the US military for the L39 and L52 versions of the 155mm ERC. The load from American Rheinmetall Munitions is particularly exceptional in that it can achieve a 10% increase in range performance over the entire operating temperature profile, including in ambient scenarios.
“American Rheinmetall Munitions continues to put innovative technologies into the hands of our American Joint Force. Together with our Rheinmetall subsidiaries at Nitrochemie, we will introduce propulsion technology unlike any other in the United States today, giving U.S. Army soldiers a decisive advantage in deterring and defeating adversaries,” said Rheinmetall Munitions U.S. CEO John Somich.
