HSGS-Ameresco to Build 1.5MW Solar Project for US Army Base in Utah

HSGS-Ameresco, a joint venture Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) certified by the Small Business Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), today announced that it has been awarded a $7.9 million contract for the design and build a 1.5 MW ground-mounted solar system for the US Army at its Tooele Army Depot located in Tooele, Utah.

The grid will help reduce the electricity costs that the base incurs each year with traditional power sources. Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS) and Ameresco formed a joint venture in August 2021 under the SBA Mentor Protégé program, which helps eligible small businesses — called proteges — gain exposure and win government contracts through partnerships with more experienced companies, who are called mentors. Throughout the partnership, Ameresco provides mentorship to HSGS, lending its expertise in delivering clean technology solutions to federal sector clients.

HSGS and Ameresco have previously worked together to provide renewable energy solutions to several federal government divisions, including contracts for the US military, Department of Veterans Affairs and NASA. Building on this history of HSGS supporting Ameresco’s projects as a contractor, the Tooele Army Depot project marks the first time a contract has been awarded to the companies’ recently launched joint venture, HSGS-Ameresco. .

“The U.S. military depends on many different facilities across the country, and Tooele Army Depot is one of the posts critical to our national security,” said Dave McNeil, president and CEO of HSGS-Ameresco. “We are honored and excited to work as a joint venture to continue supporting those who protect our nation.”

Originally opened in 1942, Tooele Army Depot is a joint United States Army ordnance command post in Tooele Country, Utah. The post served primarily as a reserve ammunition storage and training site for the United States, among other related duties.

“The contract award for the 1.5 MW ground-mounted solar PV system at Tooele Army Depot marks the start of an exciting new chapter for our relationship with HSGS,” said Nicole Bulgarino, Executive Vice President of Ameresco. “We’re always excited to help the US military achieve its clean energy goals, and we’re extremely excited about implementing our innovative solar solutions and expertise in conjunction with HSGS.”

Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2022 and be completed in the fall of 2023.
