A US military plane roars over Plymouth

A huge military plane flew over the skies of Plymouth this morning. The BOEING P-8 Poseidon flew over Dartmoor and the north of the city.

The BOEING P-8 Poseidon flew from Moray, Scotland. The BOEING P-8 Poseidon is an American maritime patrol aircraft developed and produced by Boeing Defense, Space & Security, modified from the 737-800ERX. It was developed for the US Navy.

The BOEING P-8 Poseidon is armed with torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and other weapons and can drop and monitor sonobuoys for marine research and operate in conjunction with other assets including the antenna without Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton maritime surveillance pilot vehicle.

It has been operated by the United States Navy, Indian Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and United Kingdom Royal Air Force. It was also commissioned by the Royal Norwegian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force, Republic of Korea Navy and German Navy.

Residents of Exeter and East Devon also reported seeing the four-engine turboprop military aircraft, Lockheed C-130J Hercules, in the skies. The BOEING P-8 Poseidon is currently over the English Channel heading south
